Weapons

Top Help
X’s Weapons

Most of the weapons are renamed or utterly changed here from the games in which they originally appeared.

Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Blast Hornet
Characteristics: Homing
Color Scheme: Brown and white
Appears In: MMXII
Bomb Bee
Probably the most useful weapon in the game (mostly thanks to poor level design). This is a homing missile essentially. The bee will fly to any enemy currently on the screen and impact with it, doing damage. When charged, forms a shield of bees around you which damage things that you hit. They disappear after a short time.
Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Flame Mammoth
Color Scheme: Red and white
Appears In: MMXII
Fire Wave
This version of the weapon shoots a fireball. If the fire hits the ground it will produce a wave of fire. When charged, it causes fiery meteors to fall from the sky.
Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Launch Octopus
Color Scheme: Dusky blue and white
Similar To: Storm Tornado
Appears In: MMXII
Marine Tornado
Shoots a vertical water whirl (similar to the Storm Tornado only rotated 90 degrees). When charged, it fires a spread shot in four directions.
Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Neon Tiger
Color Scheme: Yellow and white
Appears In: MMXII
Ray Claw
Pressing the fire button forms a continuous slash from X’s cannon. Charging up produces the regular Ray Splasher.
Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Overdrive Ostrich
Characteristics: Multidirectional
Color Scheme: Fuchsia and white
Appears In: MMX2, MMXII
Sonic Slicer
Fires half-moon shaped bits of energy. When charged, causes sonic slices to be rained down from above.
Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Wire Sponge
Color Scheme: Green and white
Appears In: MMX2, MMXII
Strike Chain
A short orange chain extends from X’s cannon. When charged the effect is the same; the chain is just bigger.
Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Tunnel Rhino
Color Scheme: Red-orange and white
Appears In: MMX3, MMXII
Tornado Fang
Produces a three-drill spread. When charged, a large drill is attached to X’s cannon similar to the Frost Shield.
Uses: 2 units
Obtained From: Volt Catfish
Characteristics: Multidirectional
Color Scheme: Cyan and white
Appears In: MMXII
Tri-Thunder
Fires three spheres which travel outward in a spread formation. When charged, X flashes and multiple spheres shoot in random directions from his body (similar to Zero’s version of the weapon).

Zero’s Weapons

You have to select some of Zero’s weapons off the subscreen to use them (the effects happen instantly similar to the Zero Scramble Programs in Xtreme). Also all of Zero’s weapons share a single energy meter (the one that is always showing, even if you don’t have a weapon equipped).

Uses: 4 units
Obtained From: Overdrive Ostrich
Motion: Select from subscreen
Appears In: MMXII
Dash
Zero dashes forward and damages what he hits, then teleports back to where he started. Zero cannot be damaged or killed while executing this Dash technique so you don’t have to worry about, for example, flinging him into spikes.
Uses: 0
Obtained From: Tunnel Rhino
Motion: Down+Slash while in air
Similar To: Hyouretsuzan
Appears In: MMXII
Drill Crush
Zero jabs downward with a drill-shaped spear. This move requires no energy.
Uses: 8 units
Obtained From: Blast Hornet
Motion: Select from subscreen
Appears In: MMXII
Earth G.
Zero makes a teleport animation, then slams his fist into the ground and produces a wave of rocks that covers the screen. Oddly enough, this move can be done in the air, which doesn’t make sense because Zero slams his fist into nothing and still produces the correct result.
Uses: 4 units
Obtained From: Flame Mammoth
Motion: Down+Slash while on ground
Appears In: MMXII
Fire Wave
Zero slashes a fire sabre, which creates a wave of fireballs similar to X’s use of the weapon.
Uses: 4 units
Obtained From: Launch Octopus
Motion: Up+Slash while in air
Appears In: MMXII
Fish Fang
Zero slashes several fish-shaped shots downward in a fan shape. Yes, pressing Up produces a shot that fires down. Ah well, Down was already taken after all...
Uses: 4 units
Obtained From: Wire Sponge
Motion: Select from subscreen
Appears In: MMXII
Lightning
Fires lightning bolts down the screen in random places. Extremely hard to aim; however the first bolt is almost guaranteed to appear right where Zero is standing.
Uses: 0
Obtained From: Neon Tiger
Motion: Up+Slash while on ground
Similar To: Ryuenjin/Ryuenjein
Appears In: MMXII
Rising
Zero slashes upward with his blade. This uses no energy.
Uses: 4 units
Obtained From: Volt Catfish
Motion: Select from subscreen
Appears In: MMXII
Tri-Thunder
When you select this one, Zero crouches and sends Tri-Thunder balls in all directions. Handy, but a tad hard to aim.

Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Energy Capsule
These globes are the same as energy pellets except that more energy is refilled.
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Weapon Energy Capsule
These are the same as weapon energy pellets except that more energy is refilled.
Also Known As: Spare Body
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
1-Up
Extra lives. If you have one of these when you bite the dust, you’ll be given another chance at the stage.
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Heart Tank
This adds two units to your energy meter. That’s two units to your maximum health—you can literally increase the total size of your energy bar with these.
Also Known As: Sub-Tank
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Sub-Tank
These are permanent containers that can be used to store spare life energy and carry it around until it is needed. They are reusable and can be refilled as often as necessary. To fill a Sub-Tank, acquire energy when your energy meter is full, and the energy will go to your tank instead.
Appears In: MMXII
DNA Soul (1)
These are obtained from enemies similar to energy pellets. The more DNA Souls you collect, the better the Parts you can build. Single DNA Soul pellets give you 4 Souls and refill 2 units of your energy meter.
Appears In: MMXII
DNA Soul (2)
These are the same as standard DNA Soul pellets except they give you more Souls (8).
Appears In: MMXII
DNA Soul (3)
These are the same as standard DNA Soul pellets except they give you more energy and more Souls (16).
Appears In: MMXII
DNA Soul (4)
These are obtained from bosses and give you a whopping 200 DNA Souls.
Appears In: MMXII
DNA Soul (1)
The blue DNA Souls refill your weapon energy rather than your life energy. They also give you Souls as one might expect.
Appears In: MMXII
DNA Soul (2)
This gives you the same amount of Souls as the yellow version but refills your weapons.
Appears In: MMXII
DNA Soul (3)
This group of pellets will refill more of your weapon energy and give you 16 DNA Souls.
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Ride Armor
This is a robot walker than X can get into and maneuver around. Most of the controls are the same while in the Ride Armor (jump, attack, and so forth). When you are in a Ride Armor and get hit, the armor takes the damage, rather than X, but after it suffers too much damage, it will be destroyed. (You’ll notice it flashing before this happens.) To hop out of a Ride Armor, press up + jump.
Appears In: MMX1, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Helmet Upgrade
The helmet allows you to break certain blocks by bonking them with your head.
Appears In: MMX2, MMX7, MMXII
Armor Upgrade
Aside from raising your defense, this armor can use the Giga Crush from Mega Man X2 which is a powerful full-screen attack. However you can only use it when the energy meter is full. The meter fills when you receive certain damage from enemies, and also can be filled with weapon energy capsules. But because the energy empties every time you exit a stage and takes a long time to fill, don’t count on using it very often.
Appears In: MMX3, MMXII
Boots Upgrade
This upgrade gives you an air dash (double-jump to use it) and also allows you to break bricks on walls by climbing them. Note you can air dash straight up by pressing up while hitting jump.
Appears In: MMX3, MMXII
X-Buster Upgrade
Dr. Light’s grammar is particularly suffering in this speech; however the basic result is the X-Buster upgrade allows you to fire two shots from one charge (assuming you charge all the way up) and you can also perform a cross-over attack similar Mega Man X3 (charge all the way up, then double-tap the fire button). Unfortunately the cross-over attack here is difficult to use because the resulting shots are tiny. So although it has good reach (because the shots fly off at angles), it can be difficult to do good damage with the cross-over. Note that you can also charge special weapons with this upgrade.
Appears In: MMXI, MMXII
Zero Final
The Zero Final is an attack, not an upgrade to his Saber (although you acquire it as such). Select it off the subscreen to perform it. Zero slashes several times then does an upward slash before teleporting back where he started.
Appears In: MMXII
Leg Crush
Zero doesn’t need an upgrade to air-dash (he can do that from the start of the game) so these merely allow him to break certain blocks, like X’s boots.
Appears In: MMXII
Head Crush
Zero’s head upgrade is much like his leg upgrade—it adds the ability to break bricks with his head.
Appears In: MMXII
Body Upgrade
This increases Zero’s defense. Always a handy thing to have.
Appears In: MMXI, MMXII
Shotokan
This is the Hadouken and Shouryuken rolled into one. To perform these, you need to charge up first to the pink (maximum) level. Then hold Down and release the fire button for the Fireball, or hold Up and release the button for the Dragon Punch. These moves will destroy most minor enemies with one blow, and take off half the energy meter of a boss (except Sigma, unfortunately).

Parts

Top Help
Appears In: MMX5, MMX6, MMXII
Hyper Dash
The character equipped with this glows when he dashes. The character is completely invincible while dashing with this equipped (whether on the ground or in the air). Although this doesn’t do any damage to enemies, it can be useful for dodging.
Appears In: MMX5, MMX6, MMXII
Hyper Charge
X charges up his X-Buster faster. Useful unless combined with the Ultimate Buster.
Appears In: MMX5, MMX6, MMXII
Speed Shot
X’s arm cannon shots are faster. This allows you to fire more shots more quickly.
Appears In: MMX5, MMX6, MMX8, MMXII
Super Recover
Picking up life pellets restores more energy than usual.
Appears In: MMX5, MMX6, MMXII
Ultimate Buster
Whenever you press the fire button you will get a fully-charged shot. No charge time necessary! Note though that this will always give you X’s normal super-shot level; if you have the X-Buster upgrade, you’ll never see its cross-over or pink super-shots while you have this equipped.
Appears In: MMX5, MMX6, MMXII
Energy Saver
Weapons use half the normally required weapon energy. This is particularly useful for Zero since most of his weapons require insane amounts of energy.
Appears In: MMX5, MMX6, MMXII
Saber Plus 1
Increases the damage of Zero’s Saber by 1. This is basically Zero’s equivalent of X’s Buster Plus 1.
Appears In: MMXII
Saber Plus 2
Increases the damage of Zero’s Saber by 2. You can combine this with the Saber Plus 1 for a total of +3 damage.
Appears In: MMX6, MMX8, MMXII
Bar(rier) Extender
This extends the length of time you are invincible after taking damage.
Appears In: MMXII
Armor
Not really a Part, as you don’t have to equip this on the subscreen; this gives X all of the enhancements he can get from Dr. Light’s capsules (except the hidden one of course). There really is no point to this; you can gather them yourself just as easily, but if you manage to gather a lot of Souls early it can be a shortcut.
Appears In: MMXII
Buster Plus 1
Increases the damage of X’s arm cannon shots by 1. This is more useful than it sounds since it affects his regular shots and his super-shots and it often makes the difference between requiring two hits and one.
Appears In: MMXII
Buster Plus 2
Increases the damage of X’s shots by 2. Oddly this is the same cost as the Buster Plus 1. You can actually equip these at the same time and get added benefit—a +3 to every shot, which essentially turns each normal shot into the equivalent of a super-shot and doubles what X’s super-shots do normally. This is probably the best use for X’s Part slots.
Appears In: MMXII
Ultimate Saber
Normally, you can execute what I call the “triple-slash” by pressing the button three times rapidly. Traditionally, the third slash of this has always had better damage, more reach, and takes more hits. With the Ultimate Saber equipped, every time Zero slashes while he’s on the ground, he’ll pull off this third slash. You don’t need to do the first two first.
Appears In: MMXII
Extreme Mode
Unlocks the Extreme Mode on the title screen. See the Tricks section for more details. This isn’t really a Part.
Appears In: MMXII
Boss Attack Mode
Unlocks the Boss Attack Mode on the title screen. See the Teleporting Hatches section.

Mega Man X
Commonly called simply “X,” this robot was built by Dr. Light for reasons unknown. He fights Mavericks to aid both humans and Reploids, but an inner hatred for violence prevents him from being as good of a Hunter as he could be.

Sigma
Sigma is one of the Reploids Dr. Cain built from information gleamed from X himself. After going Maverick, Sigma has apparently determined that the human race is inferior to Reploids and must either be enslaved or killed. Like a persistent bug, he always returns even after he is defeated, usually in a new form, since though his bodies are defeated, apparently his programming continues to live on to cause more damage.
HP: ?

Appears In: MMX4, MMXII
Iris
Iris spots for X and Zero, giving them data from HQ to help them on the field. She also uses DNA Souls to build Parts for them.
HP: ?

Appears In: MMXII
Gareth
This mysterious Reploid is not found in any of the Maverick Hunter HQ databases. He is known as a Soul Eraser, who swipes DNA Souls from Reploids to use for building items.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Appears In: MMXII
Berkana
We know even less about Berkana than Gareth. Her goal apparently is to gather enough data about Reploids via DNA Souls to increase her fighting potential until she is unbeatable. She never exactly succeeds, however...
Appears In: MMX1, MMX2, MMX3, MMX4, MMX5, MMX6, MMX7, MMX8, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Dr. Thomas Light
The creator of X who manifests only as holograms in capsules. His capsules give X upgrades for his struggles ahead.

Mavericks

Top Help
This game is full of them. There are a whopping 16 Mavericks in this title, although admittedly only eight have stages and corresponding weapons.

HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Armor Armarge
Appears In: MMX1, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Armored Armadillo
This guy rolls himself into a ball and ricochets around the room. His energy shots are far less dangerous. If you can manage to hit him with a Tri-Thunder, you’ll knock off his armor and this makes him more vulnerable.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Explose Horneck
Weapon: Bomb Bee / Earth G.
Weakness: Dash
Appears In: MMX3, MMXII
Blast Hornet
He’s tall and can fly, but he’s not as fast here, which makes him a bit more manageable. He can still be a pain if you don’t hit him strong and hard with Zero’s Dash or the S.Slicer—you might find his little hornet robots swarming you otherwise.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Icy Penguigo
Appears In: MMX1, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Chill Penguin
This is one of the smaller Mavericks. As his name suggests, he is another of the ice robots, who can turn you into a popcicle if you give him the chance. Stay on the walls to avoid most of his attacks.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Burnin' Noumander
Weapon: Fire Wave
Weakness: Marine Tornado
Appears In: MMX1, MMXII, MHX
Flame Mammoth
Both tall and wide, this was one of the first bosses to have a room that is bigger than the width of the screen. This is also one of the more irritating “features” added to the series, since half the time Flame Mammoth is scrolled off the screen where you cannot hit him—but he can hit you! I really recommend taking the M.Tornado to this guy; try hanging out on the wall above him and shooting it from there.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Fraim Stugger
Appears In: MMX2, MMXI, MMXII
Flame Stag
Residing in a volcano, this guy’s room has more height than width. He can be a flurry of activity, but if you hit him with the M.Tornado, you can occupy him so much that he won’t get around to most of his attacks.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Launcher Octopuldo
Weakness: Tri-Thunder
Appears In: MMX1, MMXII, MHX
Launch Octopus
This is one of the more busy battles; you can’t stay in one place for long, and fish and homing torpedoes get sprayed everywhere. Whatever you do, don’t let this guy get his arms on you! He’s capable of siphoning off energy for his own use, and often he takes more than he needs. If you get into his clutches, you’ll have a hard time getting out. So either dash away when he spins, or chop off his arms with the Ray Claw. The Tri-Thunder is good for damage.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Magne Hyakulegger
Appears In: MMX2, MMXI, MMXII
Magna Centipede
This guy has a magnetic personality, but you can gunk that up by blasting him with the Bomb Bee. Otherwise, you’ll not only have to worry about being attracted to him (groan) but you’ll also have to dodge his Magnet Mines...
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Metamor Mothmeanos
Appears In: MMX2, MMXI, MMXII
Morph Moth
Now this is one of the more original—and adorable—of the Mavericks. He begins the battle as a teeny little moth robot that is capable of drawing debris to himself in a spiral (to avoid this, try circling the room by running along the floor, climbing a wall, air-dashing over him, and repeating). Only after you damage him significantly does he show his true form.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Shining Tigerd
Weapon: Ray Claw / Rising
Weakness: Tornado Fang
Appears In: MMX3, MMXII
Neon Tiger
For some reason this guy lost a lot of speed. Hang out on the walls and fire from there; if you jump up to the top of the wall and slide down over and over, his shots should miss you. Cross the room when he switches sides (depending on his angle, sometimes you have to go over him, and sometimes under) and repeat. When he starts trying to uppercut you, you’ll have to be more careful, but he’s almost dead by this point.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Sonic Ostreague
Weapon: Sonic Slicer / Dash
Weakness: Strike Chain
Appears In: MMX2, MMXII
Overdrive Ostrich
When Ostrich goes into the background, wait until just before he leaps, then move out of the way before he lands on you. Use the S.Chain on him. You can try Lightning as well, but better stand under or over him when you fire it to make sure you hit him at least once.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Spark Mandriller
Appears In: MMX1, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Spark Mandrill
This hulking robot would love to pound you, and very little will slow him down. You’ll have to rely on fancy footwork to get around him.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Storm Eagleed
Appears In: MMX1, MMXI, MMXII, MHX
Storm Eagle
A birdman with impressive wing strength, Storm Eagle can blow you for a loop. He likes to dive on his opponents, but if you are fast enough, you can leap him and get a shot in at the same time. Generally if you keep your head, Storm Eagle isn’t very threatening, but make sure he doesn’t knock you off the ledge.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Screw Masaider
Weakness: Earth G.
Appears In: MMX3, MMXII
Tunnel Rhino
He’s big, ugly, and charges a lot. His drill-like Tornado Fangs delay before they begin moving, which can throw you off guard. You can hang out on the walls to avoid him, but jump off over him when he charges.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Electro Namazuros
Weapon: Tri-Thunder
Weakness: Ray Claw
Appears In: MMX3, MMXII
Volt Catfish
This guy has a lot of shocks and likes to use them. He also likes jumping and landing on your head. You can forestall most of his moves with the Ray Claw, but be aware that he is invulnerable at times.
HP: ?
AT: ?
Also Known As: Wire Hetimarl
Weakness: Drill Crush
Appears In: MMX2, MMXII
Wire Sponge
You’ll have to be careful dodging this guy; sometimes you can jump over his grappling hook and attack him, and sometimes his chain hurts you too. So climb the wall instead—if his grapple hits the wall, jump off because he’ll pull himself toward it; otherwise drop down as soon as the chain is out of the way and fire at him. When he’s almost dead he’ll turn red and begin using his lightning attack. This is nasty so kill him quickly. You can’t hit him during the lightning attack itself; you have to wait until he moves.
