Like
Mega Man X4, X gets weapons and Zero gets techniques, although Zero does get a few weapons here as well. Note that some of my expansions of the names are currently unofficial and thus why they are in brackets.
X’s Weapons
Characteristics: Multidirectional
C(rescent) Shot
Fires a crescent forward but at a random angle. When charged, surrounds X with yellow crescents of energy for a brief time.
Characteristics: Full-screen
Dark Hold
This is basically the
Time Stopper. However you can still fire your cannons or use your saber while this is active, and you can stop the effect early by switching weapons.
Uses: 6 units (5 charged)
F(irefly) Laser
Shoots a small firefly projectile; because it is controllable with the directional pad, X can’t move while using this. When charged, fires a continuous laser beam forward for a length of time; X can move around and reposition the beam as necessary.
Goo Shaver
Fires a small ice shard along the ground. When charged, produces a lot of ice blocks which fall in an arc.
Characteristics: Multidirectional, Burns
Ground Fire
Shoots a fireball downward slightly; when it hits the ground it remains there for a few seconds, shooting fireballs in random directions. A charged shot fires two beams of fire to either side of X.
Uses: 2 units (4 charged)
Spike Ball
Shoots a large spiked ball forward (you saw that one coming). When charged, the ball ricochets around the room for a few moments.
Characteristics: Multidirectional
Tri-Thunder
This is the
Thunder Beam basically, although the energy gathers into spheres and rolls along walls and floors it strikes. When charged, causes beams to fire from the top of the screen down to the bottom, in random places, similar to the
Lightning Bolt.
Uses: 2 units (4 charged)
Wing Spiral
X makes a little hop and a tornado fires upward. When charged, produces a tornado which travels forward, growing larger as it moves.
Zero’s Techniques
Note: The manual lists the following techniques in Japanese, but the game uses English translations, so for the sake of clarity and consistency I do as well.
Also Known As: Mikazukizan
Motion: Press jump or attack while in the air
C(rescent) Sword
Zero gains a double-jump and his saber swipes in a complete circle when he uses it while in the air. Both of these are exceedingly useful—the double-jump increases his jumping range and the different saber slash increases his in-air attack range. Note: When you slash while in the air, Zero’s saber takes on special damage similar to X’s Crescent Shot weapon. This means anything which is weak against the C-Shot will be weak against the C-Sword as well.
Also Known As: Messenko
Motion: Giga Attack (or select it like a weapon and use the special weapon button)
C-Flasher
Basically the
Rising Phoenix Crush. This is a special weapon with weapon energy that Zero uses to attack in a fan-shaped shot. Goes through walls.
Motion: Special weapon button
Dark Hold
Also Known As: Denjin
Motion: Press up and attack
E(lectric) Blade
As its name suggests, Zero swipes upward with a lightning saber.
Also Known As: Hisuisho
Motion: Dash while in the air
F(rost) Splasher
Zero air-dashes surrounded by a shield of ice. Damages some enemies. Zero can pass harmlessly through most things while executing this move.
Motion: Press down while in the air
Quake Blazer
Zero down-thrusts with a flaming saber that produces a small explosion when he lands.
Also Known As: Sogenmu/Sougenmu
Motion: Special weapon button
Twin Dream
This is used like a normal special weapon. It produces a hologram of Zero which mirrors his motions a short distance in front of him. Note that touching the hologram itself to things will not damage them, but the hologram’s beam saber can inflict damage on things.
Also Known As: Shipuu
Motion: Press attack while dashing
W(ing) Shredder
Zero aborts his dash and a holographic clone shoots forward from him, damaging whatever it hits. Somewhat tricky to use.
