Mental Chaos

“Mega Man, look out!”

Another boulder must have appeared out of nowhere, or at least dropped from the ceiling, because neither of them ever heard its approach except for the crashing boom of the bounce it made right behind them. Before Mega Man could even realize what was happening, the boulder was striking him full in the back, knocking him senseless. Dr. Light had enough warning to save himself from a serious blow, but nonetheless both of them were knocked clean off the ledge by the weight of the boulder.

Abruptly they were falling through empty space, with the boulder following above them. The hard floor waited, meters below. And even if they survived the drop, they’d be crushed by the boulder seconds later.

Dr. Light closed his eyes.
