Lands of Confusion

“You can’t escape me forever, Signal!” Pulse growled as he flicked his blades at Signal again. Signal flipped backwards and out of the way, and Pulse snarled in frustration and redoubled his efforts. Mega Man found himself in the unusual position of having been forgotten as everyone else watched the combat. He noticed the gaping hole that remained of the gate leading to the lab. Maybe he could find something in there that would be useful...

He was about to go for it when a shout made him look back. Signal had landed out of reach of Pulse again, and Pulse finally gave an enraged cry and whirled, his eyes glowing brightly. Mega Man realized that Pulse was aiming at him and tried to get out of the way, but it was already too late. The lasers struck him full in the chest and sent him crashing into the wall. Thin red-hot spikes of pain stabbed into his chest with every breath, and he sagged against the wall, clutching a hand at the melted skin where the lasers had burned into him. A shadow fell across him, and he looked up into Pulse’s madly glowing eyes.
